Atomic bomb in Hiroshima

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks ordered by Harry S. Truman, President of the United States, against the Empire of Japan. The attacks were carried out on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively, which contributed, along with the Soviet-Japanese War, to the surrender of Japan and the end of World War II. After six months of intense bombardment of 67 other cities, the Little Boy nuclear weapon was dropped on Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed by the detonation of the Fat Man bomb on Thursday, August 9, on Nagasaki. Between 105,000 and 120,000 people died and 130,000 were injured.

Hiroshima was a city of some industrial and military importance.

The city was a communication center, storage place, and a gathering area for troops. It was one of the Japanese cities that were deliberately spared from Allied bombardments in order to be able to subsequently make an accurate assessment of the damage caused by the atomic bomb.

The Little Boy bomb was dropped at 08:15 a.m. from Hiroshima and reached in 55 seconds the height determined for its explosion, approximately 600 meters above the city. Due to side winds the main target missed, the Aioi Bridge, by almost 244 meters, detonating just above the Shima Surgical Clinic.

Economic aspects

The fundamental impetus for which Japan achieved this so-called Miracle came from the Korean War, in which the United States supported heavy industry with missiles, and allowed the rehabilitation of people committed to the former regime, including prosecuted as war criminals. reintegrated into civilian life to hold political office or run companies. Communists were expelled from administrative, industrial and teaching positions.
